The caller reported that she could see flames and smoke coming from her garage via her ring camera. Chief 1-30 (Phelps) responded and with the information provided requested a second alarm. Upon his arrival the garage was fully involved and had collapsed with flames impinging the Cherry Flats Baptist Church. Fire quickly spread up the exterior wall and into the attic area of the building. First arriving crews deployed the deck gun and a 1.75” hand line. Upon making entry into the church, interior crews found a large fire in attic space unreachable by the ground level. Crews backed out after several large thuds were heard overhead. Additional tankers were dispatched to assist with water supply operations to support a large defensive operation including aerial master streams. Upon crews exiting the building the fire quickly self ventilated and the decision was made to set up defensive operations. A 5” supply line was laid to a local water source and established a solid water supply to provide water for the entire operation. Crews worked for several hours performing fire suppression operations while maintaining safety. Thank you to our members who responded as well as all of our mutual aid partners! Your assistance is invaluable and much appreciated! The Garage and Church were a total loss. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. |
